Double Oz Seven Episode #81 – Timothy’s Talking Belly Button – The Beautician and the Beast

EPISODES

Episode81TheBeauticianAndTheBeast

Three movies into our recap series looking at each of the Bond actors and their filmography outside of the Bond universe, and we are yet to really get an outstanding film that we are glad we watched. Can Timothy Dalton buck that trend with the 1997 movie that we have seemingly avoided doing for so long, The Beautician and the Beast? Well you’re about to find out as Ben & Colin recap it! Just why are both our hosts surprised at what they think of this film? Is this the movie that really set Dalton on the path for doing more comedic roles? Why is Fran Drescher actually all kinds of amazing and what makes us want to talk about her more? Which other Bond actor makes a random appearance in this movie? Does this movie have a plot or anything happening in it? Is there better chemistry between Dalton and Drescher than between Dalton and his Bond Girls in both of Dalton’s Bond movies combined? And just why is this recap leading to more potential episodes on this movie in the future? Get yourself a statue made and a few million people repressed by a fearless dictator in the movie you’ve been waiting for us to recap!

Usually in each episode we tally every Bond kill, every Bond ‘intimate encounter’, every Bond Martini and every Bond, James Bond in our ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’ count. Given this isn’t a Bond film, it’s a bit hard for us to do that. But we like a challenge, so with each movie featuring a Bond actor that we recap, we’ll do our very best to do it! So here is our count for this movie:

COUNT TBATB TOTAL*
Bond Kills 0 18,006
Intimate Encounters 1 7
Martinis 0 0
Bond, James Bond 0 1

*Total after 4 movies

Each episode we will also give personal rankings of each of the films we cover featuring a Bond actor, and shift them up and down accordingly after each review. We will publish a running tally of where each film sits on each hosts overall table at the end of every episode. The current host ranking is as follows:

RANK BEN COLIN
1 The Beautician and the Beast The Man From Hong Kong
2 The Man From Hong Kong The Man Who Haunted Himself
3 The Man Who Haunted Himself The Beautician and the Beast
4 Zardoz Zardoz

We will also continue to ‘induct’ three scenes into the ‘hall of fame’ as we celebrate iconic moments from the Bond actors in their films outside of the Bond series. This movie we chose:

  • The classroom fire
  • Dalton’s speech in front of the masses with Fran Drescher saluting afterwards
  • The breakfast scene and Dalton’s belly button speech
